Core Courses Submissions

A&S Core Submissions

The Core Curriculum Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the College of Arts & Sciences Curriculum Committee work together to evaluate courses submitted for inclusion in the College's core curriculum. For courses being proposed for the Engaged Learning Distribution List, a preliminary development step must be completed before submission to the curriculum committees.

Courses submitted will fall into one of five categories.

  1. Adding entirely new courses
    • Submit a new course request on CIM
    • In the ‘Reason for Recommendation’ section, please indicate which distribution list is applicable (in addition to any other reasonings).
    • Attach 2 files – (1) the course template and/or syllabus and (2) the core application form signed by the department chair.
  2. Adding existing courses that need catalog changes (changes may include updating the course number, prefix, title, course description, etc.)
    • Submit a change of course request on CIM
    • In the ‘Why are you making these changes’ section, please indicate which distribution list is applicable (in addition to any other reasonings).
    • Attach 2 files – (1) the course template and/or syllabus and (2) the core application form signed by the department chair.
  3. Adding existing courses requiring no catalog change
    • Email the proposal to as_core_submissions@baylor.edu. Please include (1) a course template and/or syllabus and (2) the core application form signed by the department chair.
  4. Adding a non-A&S course (with or without catalog changes)
    • Email the proposal to as_core_submissions@baylor.edu. Please include (1) a course template and/or syllabus and (2) the core application form signed by the department chair.
    • If a non-A&S course requires catalog changes, please submit a CIM request for the changes to be reviewed and approved by the home unit. Due to routing limitations, the core proposal must be emailed separately to A&S.
  5. Removing a course from the Common Core or a Distribution List
    • Email the proposal to as_core_submissions@baylor.edu. Please include the core course removal application form signed by the department chair.

All five types of courses must be submitted for consideration to the CCAC. Please review the preliminary guidance document to aid you in your work.

Please contact as_core_submissions@baylor.edu if you have any questions.

Important Deadline

The final deadline for Core Course Submissions for consideration in the upcoming catalog is January 31st.

Engaged Learning Distribution List Submissions

There is a three-phase process for submitting a course for the Engaged Learning Distribution List, which starts with working with the Director of Engaged Learning curriculum to discuss course goals, objectives, pedagogical strategies, and potential community partnerships. The Engaged Learning Course Faculty Resource page details the entire process.

CAE Submissions

Proposals for Creative Arts Experiences (CAEs) are reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis. Visit the CAE website for more information about how to propose an event. Please note that events must be submitted 30 days in advance to be considered for CAE approval.
