The College of Arts & Sciences’ Core curriculum enables students to “acquire the knowledge, skills, and virtues needed to uncover and recognize truth, to deepen their faith, to live virtuously, to strengthen their communities, and to affect the world in transformative ways.” To that end, the core curriculum aims to “inspire moral, intellectual, and spiritual virtues." (A&S Vision)

Each year an A&S faculty member(s) will be recognized for teaching a core course in which a core virtue* is examined, expressed, demonstrated, and/or measured in significant ways in the content of the course.

Nominations for the award are to be made by the Undergraduate Program Director and/or the Chair of the department. Selection(s) will be made by the Associate Deans for Undergraduate Studies and the Director of the Core. A department may only nominate one person per year.

Award recipients will receive: (1) a commendation from the A&S Dean, (2) the Core Curriculum Emblem, (3) a certificate of appreciation, (4) a selected book on teaching the virtues, and (5) an invitation to lead a SET through the ATL. In addition, the recipient’s name and home department will be engraved and displayed with the emblem of the core virtue on display in the Undergraduate Studies suite of the A&S Dean’s Office.

Those making the nomination should send a nomination letter to Ginger_Hanchey@baylor.edu (cc’ing Grace_Hanlon1@baylor.edu) that includes the following: (1) name of the nominee, (2) core course(s) taught during the year, and (3) syllabus and/or other course materials that demonstrate how the particular virtue is examined, expressed, demonstrated, and/or measured for the course(s). Nominations are due Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
